Belle Glade Teen Hosts Teen Summit – Belle Glade Sun

BELLE GLADE — On Feb. 25 the Glades and surrounding communities will be galvanized by an event planned by local teen Je’Cynthia Nonar for teens to communicate about teen concerns – violence, employment and education. One of the purposes of the Glades Teen Summit is to create an open and on-going dialogue between teens and adults.

Je’Cynthia Nonar, stated,” We know what the problems are and as teenagers we want to be able to offer solutions. An open dialogue will give us the opportunity to contribute to our community as future leaders.”

Je’Cynthia Nonar, currently a senior at Glades Central High School and a longtime member of the Boys & Girls Club, took the lead in submitting an application to the Palm Beach Philanthropy Tank, outlining her intentions to unite teens and officials in a public dialogue.

Advancing to the finalist round, Je’Cynthia presented an impassioned and compelling case for her project and was awarded a generous grant. Her two-fold project includes taking a group of Keystone Club members to the Preventing Crime in Black Communities Conference in Miami last May (as an important first step to familiarize the teens with the purpose, power, and logistics of a conference) and conducting the Glades Teen Summit on Saturday, Feb. 25 from noon – 3:30 p.m. at the Bill Bailey Community Center, 1101 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd., Belle Glade. Admission is free, food will be provided and all ages are welcome!
